And the Shawdows Took Him
I really enjoyed Chacon's novel, "And the Shadows Took Him." The book was full of suspenseful information about everyday life that always urged me to keep reading. It defiantly grabbed my attention immediately. Within the first page I was already hooked. I love the line that William says about eating, “it all shits out the same anyway.” I liked Chacon’s writing style already. Throughout the novel, it was hard for me to put it down because I never knew what was going to happen next. I really liked reading about all of the different characters and comparing the personalities to those of the other characters. Each of the characters is very different. William has a dark personality. His whole family seems like they are walking on eggshells when they are around him. He definitely runs the household, and does not have a good relationship with any of his children. Rachel on the other hand has a heart. You can tell how much she loves her children, but for some reason she never shows it. I think her being married to William has something to do with her lack of showing affection. She seems like she has built a shell around her to protect her from the hurtful remarks made by her husband; although her never said anything bad to her. William did, however, say bad things to his children. Her was only physically abusive to Billy though for some reason. William was always making Joey, the youngest son, feel worthless. He constantly was calling him stupid and even said he was the dumbest person he knew. I can’t believe a father would talk to his son this way!

I too liked that line; it made me laugh out loud. I agree with how the book was presented, I like how the author portrayed every character with their own problems and issues making it believable toward the reader that these could be real life people. This story can relate towards a lot of readers alike, but it does have its missing puzzles to the readers who don’t want to analyze just take in.
