review of chacons novel

In finishing the book, my conclusion is simple. A well written story, sure it did feel wierd in the end a bit bumpy but it was unexpected. Its "unique" as Joey used to say, it made me feel while reading the ending that there should be a sequel as if its not finished. I really hope a part 2 will come out. The book deals with real life situations and problems that teens go through. The struggle of fitting in, dealing with family, self discovery and to be yourself. Respect other peoples cultures and backgrounds is what the reader ends up learning in the end. To decide on a good future, is to not waste true talent for something bad. I believe towards the end of the book joey finds out the hard way.

Yeah, a sequel would be cool. Daniel Chacon sure has enough material to easily write one. I'm guessing Rachael is going to move back close to her daughter Vero, Joey and William are going to have it out in court and Billy is going to find out what its like to support himself out in the world.
I agree that the book does show problems that teens go through in life dealing with struggling situations but it also shows that parents aren't free of this either. So the author does a good job of showing that life is never free of problems both for teenagers and adults.
